The Dinuba Sentinel Directory Thursday, February 14, 2019 | A7 Emperors of the Month for January
Photo contributed
Pictured above are some of the students from Dinuba High School who were named Emperors of the Month for January. In total, 16 students were recognized for exhibiting qualities in character, such as excellence, maturity, perseverance and safety.
Sentinel staff report
Last month Dinuba High School honored 16 students as Emperors of the Month, part of the school’s Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports Program. The program looks to rewards students for their good behavior rather than discipline them for their unwanted behavior.
The program encourages students to behave with four things in mind; excellence, maturity, perseverance and safety. The Emperors of the Month were selected by teachers and staff at Dinuba High for being positive examples of what it means to be an Emperor on campus.
Here is what teachers said about the 16 Emperors of the Month for January:
Kelly Carmona
“Kelly is always willing to help out in any way she can. She steps in without being asked and does what is needed. She is very self motivated and works extremely hard in class. This transpires throughout the rest of the students in class. Thank you Kelly for always being your best.”
-Ms. Haselhorst, Physical Education Department
Vicente Escobedo
“Vince is one of the, if not the, most respectful young man there is. He gets his work done, even if it is past his T.A. period. I know I can count on him to get work
done and check in with the South Campus Office to ensure he is always working. I appreciate all the work you do Vince.”
-Mrs. Cavazos, Administration
Mark John Estrada
“Mark, along with his classmate, makes sure to get their work done. They are a unique pair, always making each other laugh, and their happy mood is contagious around the office. Thank you for brightening my mornings and telling those terrible jokes that only make you laugh. Keep smiling!”
-Mrs. Cavazos, Administration
Diego Estrada
“Diego is the first to show up, take out the passes that are over in the 300’s and is the first one back. He is not only fast, but also efficient and a respectful young man. Even the rain doesn’t slow him down. Thank you Diego for your hard work.”
-Mrs. Cavazos, Administration
Juan Diego Farias
“Diego has displayed excellence with his involvement of National History Day Exhibits. As I am not experienced in the construction field, Diego has stepped up to help construct our very large exhibit boards and help with measurements. He does this with a positive attitude and is very willing to help. I appreciate his actions immensely!”
-Miss Sumpter, Social Science Department
Jan Flores
“Jan is an excellent student
that I’ve selected for his excellence. He is a joy to have in class as he is always prepared to add to thought- provoking discussions. He is a young intellectual who never shies away from getting into the character when reading in class. His range in knowledge in music, literature and pop culture is very impressive. Even more impressive is Jan’s eagerness to learn and complete any task given.”
-Mr. Celaya, English Department.
Victor Gomez-Hernandez
“Victor is an amazing Emperor! He is constantly doing his best and is looking to better himself everyday. He is a joy to have in class because of the focus and hard work he puts toward his goal. He also is someone that his peers look up to and respect because he is positive, kind and helps others. Keep up the great work!”
Mr. Morrelli, Physical Education Department
Jose Luis Herrera-Sosa
“Maturity and perseverance stand out when I think of Jose Luis. He has moments of great maturity and is always respectful and helpful, even when faced with a crappy situation. Jose Luis
strives to have a positive attitude and works hard to push beyond obstacles. He’s working hard to adjust to high school life and finds the appropriate place to fit in. I expect to see great growth in him throughout his high school years.”
-Mrs. Burner, Science Department
Viclarie Lozoya
“Vic is such a positive person. She always sees a way to overcome obstacles instead of letting them stop her. She is very polite and pleasant. Vic is hard working and responsible and self motivated. I am lucky to have her in the CNA class.”
-Mrs. Schuster, Valley ROP
Roberto Marquez
“Roberto is a great student in class. He is a hard worker and doesn’t participate in too much loose talk.”
-Mr. Butterfield, Science Department
Maricruz Martinez
“Maricruz is a dedicated and delightful student to have in class. She expresses her thoughts well in clay and on paper. Creativity is one of her strongest points. She continually challenges herself by adding to each assignment and then executes it with skill and artistic flair. Congratulations
on demonstrating excellence of character, maturity and artistic vision.”
-Mrs. Tomlinson, Fine Arts Department
Melanie Martinez
“Melanie is a super student who demonstrates excellence in everything she does in AP Literature. Her contributions to class discussions are very deep and insightful and all of her projects and presentations always go above and beyond the requirements. Melanie’s extensive knowledge in history and psychology make her an even better student in literature. I am happy to have Melanie as my student.”
-Mr. Celaya, English Department
Silvia Melendez
“Silvia has demonstrated maturity and excellence in Ceramics class this year. She consistently demonstrates good craftsmanship and creativity. I appreciate the effort and thought she puts into each project.”
-Mrs. Tomlinson
Alison Meza
“Alison is an excellent student and a hard worker who is always on task completing her work and showing her best under all circumstances. She is
a pleasure to have in class and is positive and kind towards others, but above else, she is engaged within the learning process and committed to being the best student she can be. It’s an absolute privilege to see her learn and grow within my class. -Mr. Gonzalez, English Department
Vanessa Ortiz-Moreno
“Vanessa doesn’t mess around. She is extraordinarily driven, regardless of what distractions may be occurring around her. Everything she turns in demonstrates excellence and maturity. Watch out world – here she comes!”
-Mr. Badger, English Department
Manuel Vaca Martinez
“Manuel has been an ultimate Emperor. He has helped one of our new students that does not speak English with translating and just getting accustomed to our class. He also is focused on getting better every day, by striving to do his best. I constantly catch him working hard. Manuel has been a pleasure to teach and love seeing him develop throughout the year. Keep it up Manuel!”
-Mr. Morrelli, Physical Education Department
