When the Reedley High School Symphonic Band performed May 25-28 with renown conductor and composer Joe Hisaishi and Symphony Silicon Valley in San Jose, leaders of the Pirate Marching Band performed with the group. That included wearing the marching band uniforms. Pictured above (from left) are Pirate Marching Band directors Jason Awbrey, Sam Gipson, daniel Paulsen and Lisa dewhirst with Corey dobbins, the Pirate band percussion tech.

LEFT: The Valley Oak Quilt Guild exhibit at the West Coast Men- nonite Central Com- mittee's museum space in downtown Reedley includes this colorfully detailed quilt called "Lady Bug Paradise" by Ellen Riley of Squaw Valley. It's based on a design by popular Valley quilt artist Laurie Britt, who has presented classes at the Mennonite Quilt Center.

The desmadre team again has won the Reedley Adult Basketball Championship, making it a three- peat. The season is sponsored by the city’s Community Services department. desmadre was seeded fourth going into the playoffs. The team beat the top-seed Reedley in the first round, 77-71. desmadre finished the playoffs by defeating team drippy, 67-55.

RIGHT: Barbara daniel of ducor is displaying examples of "rusted art." It's based on the history of a town livery stable that her grandfather built in ducor more than 120 years ago. When daniel first learned to "rust" fabric, she used objects found on her property for these types of quilts. daniel has said she sometimes adds beads "for color and sparkle."
