It was early Sunday morning, many years ago, when a few women followers of Jesus returned to the
tomb of their Master. Their goal was to finish preparing the body of Jesus for burial with spices and fragrant oils. That tomb was carved out of rock and a large stone was placed at the entrance, but now
lives, we can also live beyond the grave. Death may put a stop to a believer in Jesus temporarily, but it can’t take away the eternal life that Jesus has promised. Because Jesus resurrected from the grave, His followers will also resurrect from
the grave at the second coming. See 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17.
The resurrection of Jesus also teaches
us that one’s sorrow can be turned into
joy. John 16:20. The disciples of Jesus experienced deep sorrow on Friday afternoon when they saw their Master hanging on the cross. They experienced a total loss when they saw Jesus die, and His body taken down off the cross and shut up in a rock tomb. They went home crying and confused, wondering why things happened the way they did, but their sorrow didn’t last forever, because Jesus turned their sorrow into joy when He appeared to them Sunday evening.
Jesus can turn our sorrow into joy today. Usually bitter experiences don’t last forever. Instead of focusing on the sorrow around us, let’s focus on the joy that the Lord wants to bring into our lives. In fact we’re told that the joy of the Lord is our strength! Nehemiah 8:10.
The last lesson that we learn from the resurrection of Jesus is that we serve a living Savior, not a dead one. Many great leaders who have changed this world for the better or worse are still lying in their graves, but not Jesus. His tomb is empty! Jesus is alive right now sitting at God’s right hand providing us the strength to live for Him. See Mark 16:19 & Hebrews 1:4.
I invite you to serve the living Messiah, Jesus Christ. He can make a difference in your life, if you let Him. You may not be able to see Him, touch Him or feel Him, but He invites us to have faith in His existence and in His word, the Holy Bible.
The Dinuba Christian Ministerial Association also invites you to celebrate Jesus’ death and resurrection tomorrow at Dinuba Presbyterian Church at noon, and early Sunday morning at 6:00 a.m. at Smith Mountain Mausoleum. I hope you can come. God bless you and Happy Easter.

the women found the stone rolled away and the body of Jesus missing.
Suddenly two men in shining, white garments appeared out of nowhere and proclaimed those immortal words— “why do you seek the living among the
dead? He is not here, but is risen!” (Luke 24:5, 6). Then they reminded the women that Jesus had earlier said that he would be crucified and rise again in three days.
What does the resurrection of Jesus mean to us today? First of all, death couldn’t stop Jesus. It did temporarily, but three days later Jesus stepped out of the grave a conqueror. Because Jesus
