stands along Highway 63. “We submitted two separate designs for Cutler and Orosi and now I can see elements of it,” said Arzate-Arenivaz. Each of the students were presented $100 for winning the art contest, that was
almost a forgotten thought. “I totally forgot about the
contest,” said Madrigal. Alvarez added, “There was only supposed to be one winner, but as a board we looked at it and this is perfect.
It came together.”
“The signs looked run
down and old fashioned,” he said. “The lighting took the longest. The final step was the lighting.”
Their creativity will have a long-lasting affect for those in the community.
Alvarez thanked Arzate- Arenivaz and Madrigal, who are current students at UCLA.
“You should be proud of yourself for many many years to come,” he said. “I want to thank you for helping us out and helping the rest of the community out and doing what we can to help beautify our community. It’s a team effort. It’s beautiful.”

The Changing Minds One at a Time Foundation got the ball rolling on replacing old city signs with new ones. After two years in the works, the sign is up and a welcoming addition for the community.
“This is going to be around for a long time,” said Mike Alvarez, of the foundation. “We got so many compliments from the community about this sign.”
Alvarez said his foundation had to ask permission from the Lions Club to replace the signs and ask the organization to help with funding.
“The Lions purchased one of the panels and PG&E installed the lighting,” he said. Alvarez went on to say that board member, Rigo Aguirre, made new Lions signs replacing the old ones.
Former Orosi High students Karina Arzate-Arenivaz and Janette Madrigal played a role as designers of the sign. Elements of each of their drawings that were submitted in an art contest a few years ago are on display as the sign
