Maria Dominguez is a 16-year-old junior at Dinuba High School. She is the daughter of Marbella and Luis Cancino. While attending DHS, Maria has been involved in soccer, Colorguard, track, Big Brothers Big Sisters Club, Link Crew, CSF, SCICON Counselor, and Adelante Latina Program. She has been ranked #1 in her class since her freshman year.
Her hobbies include staying involved in school, spending time with friends and family, singing, reading, and being a representative for the All Things Gold clothing company. Maria’s future goals are to attend Fresno State and major in Business. She would like to be Cinco De Mayo Queen because it has been a dream of hers since she was in junior high, she believes it will be a stepping-stone to make a positive impact on her culture and community.

• Eliminate standing water and items that could hold water around the home every week.
• Report mosquito presence (anonymously, if you like) by calling Delta Vector Control District, toll-free at 1-877- 732-8606 or online at www. deltavcd.com.
• Apply an EPA-registered insect repellant that contains DEET, picaridin, IR3535 or oil of lemon eucalyptus according to label instructions when going outdoors.
• Wear loose, long-sleeved shirts and pants if outside around dusk and dawn.
• Make sure that doors and windows have properly fitting screens that are in good condition.
• Get free mosquitofish for ponds, water troughs, and water features by calling DVCD at 1-877-732-8606 or requesting them online at www.deltavcd. com.

Melissa Valencia is a 15-year- old sophomore at Dinuba High School. She is the daughter of Maria and Jose Valencia. Melissa is involved in many extra curricular activities such as soccer, track, Dinuba Med Academy, Key Club, Migrant Club, Ignite Club, FCA Club, Student Council, Big Brother Big Sister Program, CSF and HOSA, all while maintaining a 4.5 GPA.
Melissa came to the United States when she was 12-yearsold and did not speak English. In 3 years she has successfully conquered this challenge. Melissa’s hobbies include, reading, studying, working out, volunteering and spending time with her family. Her future goals are to attend Fresno State and major in Biology and then attend medical school at UCLA. She wants to pursue a career as a Pediatric Oncologist. Melissa would like to be Cinco De Mayo Queen to represent her culture and community.

If you go: This year's Cinco De Mayo Pageant will be held on April 27 at Dinuba High School's Hellbaum Auditorium. There are nine consestants for this year's pageant. This year's theme is a tribute to the late Tejano artist Selena, entitled 'Baila Esta Cumbia'. Tickets for the pageant are currently on sale at Debbie's Hair Fashions at 141 West Tulare Street in Dinuba. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door.
