Mendota High’s boys basketball team used a 21-1 run in the second quarter as the Aztecs went on to defeat Orosi 59-37 at the Reedley Tip Off Classic on Saturday afternoon at Reedley High.
The Cardinals did outscore Mendota 14-4 in the third quarter but could never draw closer.
Orosi had a tough time at the tournament as the Cardinals also dropped a 68-32 contest to Fowler on Friday.
Host Reedley opened its tournament with a game against OHS on Thursday and came to with a 66-45 win.
Junior guard Arzel Quicio led the team with 13 points and Issiah Villegas also reached double figures with 10 points. Guard Jose Ramos added seven points and Justin Marroquin chipped in six points.
Orosi played Riverdale last night and will take part in the Corcoran tournament this week.

Dinuba High girls wrestler Autumn Rangel finished third overall in the 131 pound division at the Lemoore Last Girls Standing tournament on Friday.
Rangel began the day with a pin against Redwood’s Elizabeth Gormley then she faced Izabella Evans of Mission Oak, who handed Rangel a 16-5 loss.
Rangel bounced back with consecutive pins against Kayla Evenson of Mission Oak and Rhiannon Racca of Monache.
Teammate Leslie Esquivel, who competed at 137, dropped
Golden West. Also wrestling in that division was Lydia Devora, who went 0-2.
The varsity boys team participated in the Lemoore Duals on Saturday finishing with a 3-2 record. The Emperors lost to Lemoore 41-35 and Righetti 52-24 before recording wins against Fowler (49-21), Sierra Pacific (57-6) and Madera (44- 30).
Javier Castro went 5-0 for the day.
The JV squad also went 3-2 beating Madera (42-6), Lemoore (42-30) and Fowler (35-18).

The Orosi High girls soccer team defeated Fresno, 2-0, on Saturday at the Kamansky Classic Tournament in Fresno.
The Cardinals are currently 3-0-2 and were coming off a 1-1 tie against Hanford West. Orosi also had a 1-1 tie with Kerman.
The OHS boys soccer team have a 2-1-2 record heading into this week’s play. The Cardinals faced Mendota on Friday and the Aztecs prevailed 3-1.
On November 28, Orosi downed El Diamante 3-0.
Luis Corona scored a goal and assisted on another for the Cardinals. Junior Eliseo Pina also recorded an assist for OHS. The Cardinals’ other two goals were by David Pina and Mauricio Fausto.
Goalkeeper Diego Hernandez had eight saves.

“We lost our point guard in the first quarter with a knee contusion and we struggled running our offense the rest of
the game,” Prado said. “We did not convert numerous fast break opportunities missing way too many layups. Anytime you give up less than 40 points you expect to win the game.”
The Emperors entered the final game of the tournament on the heels of a thrilling 50-48 win over Mission Oak as Flores
drilled a game winning 3-pointer with 11 seconds in the game. Flores finished the game with 12 points including three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
Leading the team in scoring was Villareal-Harris with 14.
“It was a back and forth game all night and Flores hit the game- winning shot off a great drive and kick from Lopez,” Prado said.
In a 56-50 loss against Sierra, Flores lead all scorers with 25 points and made five 3-pointers while Ebony Rodriguez added seven.
Prado said the team rallied from 15 points down in the second half cutting Sierra’s lead to three points. The Emperors turned the ball over three straight times without putting up a shot, said Prado.
In the tourney opener on November 28, Dinuba jumped out to a 15-3 first quarter lead and coasted to a 59-29 win over Liberty-Madera Ranchos.
Flores and Kaylee Villasenor shared team-high scoring honors with 10 points and Lopez along with Roxanna Navarro had eight points apiece.
Flores was named to the all- tourney team, according to Prado.
