Tigers football improves to 6-0
Staff Report
Reedley High was a tantalizing 12 minutes away from evening its season record — not to mention tightening up the North Yosemite League football title race.
The Pirates led Fresno High 20-14 going into the fourth quarter on Oct. 11 before the Warriors rallied for two touch- downs to pull out a 28-20 victory at Sun- nyside High stadium in Fresno. Fresno (4- 4, 3-0 NYL) remained unbeaten in league
with its fourth consecutive win while Reedley fell to 3-5 and 1-2.
Reedley rallied twice against Fresno, getting first half touchdowns from Javier Perez and Jairo Aguilar before taking the lead in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Oddie Resendiz. But the Warriors re- gained the lead, 21-20, midway through the quarter and added an insurance score in the final three minutes. They then re- covered a Reedley fumble to salt away the victory.
The Pirates followed an impressive Homecoming victory over McLane with a spirited road effort against a Fresno team that bounced back from an 0-4 start to the season. The Warriors hooked up on a big pass play to grab a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Pirates countered with a drive that was capped by a short touchdown pass from quarterback Julio Montavo to Perez. Immanuel's 539 total yards fuel rout at Sierra Staff Report
The Immanuel High Eagles football team went to the mountains and turned in a dominating all-around performance against the Sierra High Chieftains on Oct. 12 in Tollhouse.
The Eagles (4-4) piled up 539 yards of offense — 386 on the ground — and lim- ited the hosts to just 95 total yards in a 49-0 shutout victory at Sierra High School. Im- manuel continued its season-long habit of following a loss with a lopsided victory.
"It was one of those games that’s nice to have now and then," said coach Kevin Riddle. "We were clearly the better team from the beginning and it gave us a chance to get some playing time to some guys that haven’t had a lot of opportunities.
"Sierra was the only team we’ve faced allyearwithfewerplayersthanus. Igive
