The Dinuba High School Leos Club, in parternship with the Dinuba Lions Club, was recently able to provide nearly 60 local children with jackets for the upcoming winter season. Because of their efforts, 25 boys and 24 girls from Jefferson Elementary School will be receiving free jackets in the coming week.

As for the bowling lanes, Alvarez said that all but two are currently ready for operation, with one exception. The lanes will be receiving all new state-of-the- art scoring boards and screens.
One of his biggest challenges is finding people who actually know how to work on the bowling alley’s equipment.
“There’s not a lot of people who know how to work on these things in the area,” Alvarez explained. “It’s not like changing an alternator on a Honda, but replacing a scoring system, there’s not too many people who can do that.”
To replace the system, Alvarez recruited a technician from Washington.
One of the biggest projects, and also perhaps the most expensive one, was repairing the roof to the building. Over years of disrepair the roof to the bowling alley began to show extensive damage and it was the first thing to be repaired by Alvarez. Now the building is leak-free and water- damaged ceiling panels are being replaced.
A few weeks ago the exterior of the building received a fresh new coat of paint. The purple and gray are a reflection of the Pizza Planet chain.
Also needing to be replaced were 40 percent of the bowling balls, after they were found to be unusable. About 40 percent of the bowling shoes will also be replaced. Alvarez said some people have even stopped by to drop off bowling balls.
And night bowling, formerly known as ‘Cosmic Bowling’, will also be making a comeback. To tie into the Pizza Planet theme, the bowling alley will be called ‘Orbit Lanes’, said Alvarez.
In the coming weeks the bowling alley will begin accepting applications, and will be looking to hire anywhere from 12 to 15 employees, with some full-time and some part-time workers.
For Alvarez, the experience is a family project. He said his family has been spending so much time at the bowling alley, cleaning and testing the lanes, they decided to set up their Christmas tree in the building’s lobby.
