The Orosi High boys soccer team battled through some adversity during the final day of the Clovis Tournament this past weekend.
The Cardinals, despite having nine players, received a goal from Ezequiel Zapien and settled for a 1-1 tie against Atascadero.
“It was rough,” said coach Jose Quevedo. “We had some players missing due to school activities.”
Orosi had been scheduled to open the tournament against host Clovis, but drew Sunnyside instead.
“They changed the format so we played Sunnyside first,” Quevedo added.
The Wildcats went on to post a 2-0, setting the tone for a tough tourney outing for the Cardinals.

Dinuba Head coach Ramiro Rodriguez said the team had plenty opportunities to score early in the match.
“We had so many opportunities but we just couldn’t score,” Rodriguez said. “We made it hard on ourselves.”
Ahead 1-0 after a goal from Jorge Duran in the early moments of the first half, Selma countered late with two goals under 13 minutes of play from Carlos Figueroa and Pedro Rangel.
With the Bears having all the momentum, Rodriguez reinforced the team with a few choice words.

The busiest stretch for the Dinuba High boys basketball team is over.
The Emperors had quite a run capturing the Kingsburg Lions Club Classic and were runners-up in the 4th Annual Andrew Bedoya Holiday Classic while posting a 10-2 record.
“We’re excited to get to practice,” said coach Jeff Schofield. “I’m not sure if the kids are but the coaches are.”
Schofield said the month of December is rough and added, “Luckily we’re healthy for the most part and that’s the most important.”
Dinuba, who will participate in the Polly Wilhelmsen tournament next week, picked up a win against rival Selma Monday night at home, 80-42.
The Emperors have now defeated the Bears three consecutive times thus far including a win on Thursday in the second round of the Andrew Bedoya tournament.
Monday’s performance was spot on as the Emperors went on a 29-9 third quarter blitz that blew the game wide open. Dinuba had made four consecutive 3 pointers, two each by Sebastian Garza and Josh Magaña, to close out the third. By then, the youthful Bears went cold from the floor and scored two points in the final quarter.
Garza led all scorers with 17. Magana added 12 and Isaak Flores had nine.
