having to contend with chickens in the garden and walked away,’ said Sadie, apologetically.
Minnie said that she had been dreaming of a plan to escape from Adeline, but couldn’t see a way out of the garden.
‘We can’t fly up there,’ she said looking up at the high fence. ‘And I don’t think that we can dig ourselves out either.’
Sadie felt sad. ‘I’ll have a word with Alfie and his friend, Charlie Rabbit and maybe they can come and see you. Take care, Minnie.’

The following day, Charlie discovered Minnie alone by the pond and managed to have a private conversation. The bird had given him a vague description of their beautiful orchard but had no idea where it was. But she remembered the whistling sound that she heard every morning and afternoon.
‘I can’t promise anything, Minnie, but I will do my very best to get you and your friends safely home.’ The rabbit realised the difficulty of finding the exact orchard and decided to speak with Yappy Pigeon.

Charlie walked through the enchanted garden to Barns Wood to see Matty and to check if he was using the crutches that Alfie had made. Matty was enjoying the company of Cyril Rat and Badger, and was learning how to play poker.
‘You never cease to amaze me, guys,’ said Charlie with a displeased look. ‘Where are your mum and dad, Matty?’
