Matty Hedgehog and the Paper Chase
She and Sam were slowly accepting that their eldest son might be permanently disabled. He had taken the news bravely and had vowed that his injury wouldn’t stop him from enjoying himself. She missed his cheeky grin every morning and wondered how long it would take until he could come home.
However, today, Sam and Alfie had a surprise for her. Betsy had her back to the front door and didn’t hear it open. Jackson had grabbed the bell before it clanked and slipped through the door with Matty. In a gruff voice, he’d called out: ‘Have you any stale buns, missus?’
Betsy span around with a lump of dough stuck to her hands. ‘Matty! Why didn’t you let me know that you were coming today? How did you get here? Oh, blow!’ she cried as the dough dropped to the floor.
