Matty Hedgehog and the Paper Chase
‘Dad isn’t playing properly. Will you sit with me please and tell him off?’
Velvet Rabbit folded the washing and watched them giggling at the table. She loved spending the weekends with Charlie and his daughters. Working for Mr Hare at the Petal Boutique was rewarding. He and his wife were teachers, but on Saturday they worked in their shop. Velvet looked forward to Friday evenings when Charlie came to meet her. They ate at the takeaway before strolling to his mother’s home where Velvet stayed until Monday morning.
Every Saturday morning, Tilly had a lie in and Velvet cooked her breakfast before she went to be with Charlie and the girls. Week by week, Velvet had gained their love and their trust and Charlie was happy to watch them dancing and laughing their way through the weekend. Next Saturday, they were going to visit Dolly Partridge. He was looking forward to introducing Velvet to flying with Willow and Serenity Heron.

Sadie Squirrel visited the Petal Boutique in Coopers Wood to buy ribbons for her daughter, Bella. The squirrel couldn’t resist having a peek at an open box on the counter. Inside lay cream satin lace and bows, tiny silver hearts and pearls, and a delicate headdress and veil. Sadie was curious and hurried home to tell Alfie.
‘I bet it’s Charlie and Velvet!’ she said excitedly, ‘Tilly told Sadie Duck that we might have something to celebrate at the snow picnic. She said that things were looking good.’
‘What things?’ asked Alfie.
