Matty Hedgehog and the Paper Chase
Betsy Hedgehog and Sadie Squirrel and their youngsters were waiting for the rabbits by the little garden gate. Jackson helped Matty into the cart and piled him up with his mother’s food parcels. He and his brother, Harry, pulled the cart as the rabbit girls made snowballs for Matty to throw.
‘Is Dad meeting us at Barns Farm?’ asked young Harry.
‘Yes! He’s probably building a gi-normous snow animal right this very minute,’ smiled Sadie.
‘Sam didn’t tell me how many were coming for the lunch,’ whispered Betsy with a worried look. ‘I hope my delicatessen manager, Annie Weasel, has remembered to bake plenty of pizzas.’
At Barns Farm, they found Daisy Rabbit and Velvet sitting together by one of the three camp fires. The chilled animals gathered around for warmth.
‘Have you seen Dad, Velvet?’ asked Chloe, staring around. ‘He should be here.’
‘We can’t see our dads either,’ fretted young Harry and Archie.
‘You will shortly,’ said Badger, with a grin.
Matty limped away and gazed up at the sky. ‘What are you looking at?’ Jackson asked him.
‘The herons are coming. Hey! Paris! I can see your dad flying on Willow.’
‘Wow!’ Paris yelled excitedly. ‘Wow! And Mr Squirrel is at the back. Hey! Matty’s dad is flying with Serenity Heron. This is brilliant.’
