MEET AND JOIN THE RSYC RACE MANAGEMENT TEAM
The RSYC has a successful Race Management Team (RMT). This team has been involved in many different levels of competition from Thursday evening Club Racing, Cowes Week and even at Olympic Level!
The RMT is always looking for new members from the wider Club membership to join in. Recruitment of volunteers is made more challenging in the present COVID-19 environment.
Without the ability to easily invite members out on the water with the RMT, this article aims to profile what it does and encourage others to take part. With that in mind, meet James Maltby, one of the present RMT members:
Name: James Maltby
How long have you been a RSYC
member? 11 years since November 2009.
How long have you been a member of the RMT? 10 years this Spring.
Why did you become a member of the RMT? I had moved to Southampton for University and wanted to become part of the local community, hence why I joined the RSYC. I volunteered for the RMT

These are used to set out all, or part of a racecourse and start/finish lines. There are times though where I have finished races from a RIB when we have had to shorten races. I am a qualified RYA Powerboat Instructor and taught for RSYC when we had a Powerboat School, this has led to me mentoring other mark layers in more recent years.
What are your fondest moments of being on the RMT? When the RSYC hosted a
J Class Regatta in 2012, it was a privilege to
