Jude and the
Giant Pumpkin
The world of Giant Pumpkin Growers welcomed a new member to its ranks this year. Jude Jarrett from Beaumaris began his ‘new career’ by growing a superb pumpkin weighing in at an impressive 22.5Kg. This won him the Joan Hopkin Award for Junior Giant Pumpkin Grower of the Year for 2017, at the recent BAAFTAs (Beaumaris Annual Awards For The Allotments), held in the Bulkeley Hotel.
Jude is only 4 years old and had done everything, from plant his pumpkin seed to growing it into maturity. He was so thrilled with his award that he not only took it into school the next day, but also made his Dad bring in his giant pumpkin which was, needless to say, impressive.
Jude’s parents, Julian and Fergal, and his little sister, Bethan, have only had their allotment in Beaumaris for less than a year, but in that time they have transformed it from its former neglected state into an impressive plot. As a result they were also awarded The Happy Valley Pavilion Highly Commended Award for Best Newcomer.
The 1st Beaumaris Beavers and Zander Theakston (who ironically is also a member of the Beavers) were also awarded Highly Commended certi cates for their pumpkins.

Cardiff Spring Flower Show 2018 Plans
This year the National Allotment Society Wales Region, along with representatives from Head Of ce, have plans to work together with Cardiff Allotment Holders Association to promote allotments at Cardiff Spring Flower Show on the 13th to 15th April 2018.
