Skill at Arms Meeting
6 RIFLES converged on Rollestone Camp from the West Country for their annual Skill At Arms Meeting (SAAM) to settle for the year which individual, Fire Team, Section and Company were the best shot. The final place results from the Bn SAAM are tripled and added the Bn Sports weekend to determine the Champion Company for the year so there was a lot to shoot for.
The SAAM could not have got off to a worse start with regard to the weather; as soon as the safety briefs were finished the heavens opened and it really did feel like Army training. Then as quickly as it came the rain disappeared and the Bn was in
for a treat for the rest of the weekend with temperatures around 21°c and not a cloud in the sky.
Each Company entered 2 teams, with the exception of 675 Rifles Sqn and E Coy who entered 1, which consisted of two fire teams made up of 1x Cmdr, 2x Rfn, 1x LMG.
The Saturday consisted of a round robin between the ranges with interesting shoots such as Urban Contact and the Para Cup.
On Sunday the LMG’s competed for the Automatic Shoot trophy before rejoining their Fire Teams for the final shoot – Fire Team knock out Falling Plates. All 20 teams were in the running for the Falling Plates Trophy. The rounds were intense and some incredibly close and in the end Headquarters emerged victorious.
