Recruits and Recruiting
Over the past twelve months we have been working hard to develop a coherent and efficient Recruit Retention and Mentoring Team (RRMT) within the Battalion. Over this time, we have seen the RRMT Platoon grow to 1 +25 helped in part by welcoming E Coy (Shrewsbury and Hereford) into the Bn fold.
All RRMT personnel have now completed two-day recruiter’s course run by Sjt Maj Barnes ensuring that we have a standard recruiting template applied across the Battalion laid down by the Recruiting Group (RG).
In addition to the recruiters course we have attended the mandatory TRHJ training. Once successfully passed this course allows everyone access to the generic database which in turn allows access to statistical data regarding recruits within the system. This has proved invaluable to the Platoon providing the information required to effectively follow up on individuals
who may be held up in the recruitment process.
The Platoon’s next training will take the form of a visit to the National Recruiting Centre (NRC) to allow the RRMT to form a relationship with their Candidate Support managers (CSMs), this will be followed by a workshop on the planning and conducting of an outreach activity. In addition, it will also see us doing some low-level adventure training and team building activities.
All Coy RRMT are now engaged in recruiting activities of differing types. These normally take the form of local enterprise activities although they also support Op FORTIFY when necessary. We have been concentrating on moving away from the recruiting stand and engaging directly with the public to reaffirm that we are still actively recruiting. Events such as open evenings and support to local community events are proving very successful with the majority of

our recruits still coming from walk-ins having attended or heard through friends about one of our Coy events.
The Bn has had another strong year with increasing numbers of recruits attending phase
1 & 2 (TSC A & TSC Inf) courses before going on to complete and pass out from CIC. At the time of writing, we have approximately 150 recruits at one point or another within the recruiting pipeline, which is superb news for the Bn and the Regiment as a whole. This only goes to show that the innovation, drive and determination of the Bn RRMT to provide the trained Riflemen required, which are after all the lifeblood of the regiment.
It’s all in the bag!
When troops are injured on exercise or return to the United Kingdom from war zones they arrive back without their personal effects or clothing.
The objective of TROOP AID is to supply them with the ‘basic essentials’.
It costs £25.00 to make up one of our GRAB BAGS.
