This has been a significant year for E Company, having started at one Army Reserve Centre, as part of 4 MERCIAN, and finishing with an outstation as part of 6 RIFLES. The year has been busy with a variety of overseas operations and exercises.
Soldiers from 9 Platoon in Shrewsbury have been to Cyprus on Op TOSCA and
to the USA. A number of riflemen from E Coy deployed to Cyprus with 4 MERCIAN as part of 17 Port and Maritime Group for
a six month tour. There was a very busy period of pre-deployment training to ensure the platoon had reached the prerequisite standard to be signed off for company
level operations. The tour went well
with Riflemen performing to an excellent standard.
10 Platoon, based in Hereford, has been equally busy. Training this year included indoor climbing during the winter, active participation and community engagement in The Big Black Mountain Challenge and The Hereford Half Marathon. Some of the more experienced members of the platoon were very pleased to re-acquaint themselves with the GPMG shoots on the Battalion SAAM. More recently, the platoon supported a
C4C Dinner Night in memory of Rfn Kurt Etheridge which raised over £10,000.
The focus for the coming months is to develop unit integrity between Hereford and Shrewsbury. There is great potential,
with excellent manning figures, coupled with a healthy supply of new recruits. The Company anticipates an exciting and challenging year within 6 RIFLES.
