RBL Annual Conference
Berlin Tattoo & Germany November 2013
The Band and Bulges are quite used to travelling to Germany for an annual tour usually lasting three or four weeks, however, this tour was going
of different locations. The woodwind quintet provided musical support to a remembrance service in Herford for the
historically known for its connections to the Pied Piper legend, and here the band were given a guided tour of the places of interest around the city and then were challenged to complete a photo treasure hunt by the Assistant Director of Music. Our final stop in Germany was Neuss, this was for a charity concert that takes place every year organised by The Lions Club. Although
the concert was predominantly that of The Band and Bugles, we were joined by guest performers. The first being Désirée Brodka, a locally known soprano. The second was a local band who take much inspiration from The Band and Bugles of The Rifles,
to be different. On
the 30 October 2013
The Band and Bugles
travelled to the O2
World Arena in Berlin
to begin rehearsals for
the Berlin Tattoo. We
were joined by eleven
other bands from six countries; these included The Ailsa Craig Highland Dancers from the UK, The Band and Pipes of the Armed Forces Sharjah from the United Arab Emirates, The Conscript Band of the Swiss Armed Forces and The Lucerne Marching Band.
The Band and Bugles once again made a lasting impression with a performance of Bab el Mandeb, The Doubles, Quick Silver, Zorba and of course; Mechanized Infantry.
Our time in Germany ran from October through to November ‘13, therefore incorporating Remembrance Sunday. The Band and Bugles split into various groups to provide musical support in a number
1st (United Kingdom) Armoured Division Headquarters and Signals Regiment. The remainder of the band played at Becklingen War Cemetery, Bergan. The bugles were split over many locations

Sandhurst to name a
few.
During our downtime, The Band and Bugles journeyed to Hamelin, which is
both in appearance and repertoire called The Quirinus Band and Bugles Corps.
After a rather successful and well received concert and overall tour in Germany it was time for the coach journey back to
England and the start of a well-deserved weekend break for The Band and Bugles.
