South West Regional Inter-County Athletics
Cornwall Army Cadets attend the South West Regional Inter-County Athletics at Devonport, taking part in both track and field categories. The team of 25 were the winners of the Competition bringing the ‘Trophy’ back to Cornwall, previously winning it six years ago.
Fifteen of the cadets were selected to represent the South-West region at Grantham to compete against cadets from all over the country.
Colour Serjeant Jon Phillips said
“Cadets create fantastic opportunities for young people not only to gain new skills and qualifications but also to promote participation in sports and compete at a serious level. I am really proud of the fact that out of the team selected to represent Cornwall, seven out of the team of 25 came from Liskeard.”

Summer Camp at DTE St Mawgan Cornwall
Over 242 Army Cadets from all parts of Cornwall attended the Summer Camp at RAF St Mawgan, where they spent two weeks fulfilling a wide and varying programme of activities.
Many cadets attending increased their achievements within the progressive training programmes of Star Grades, including First Aid, and Radio User Courses, and walking expeditions for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Also Cadets undertook a 48 hour fieldcraft exercise on the Boconnoc Estate according to each Cadets respective star grade.
The Cornwall Cadets were visited whilst training by the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Colonel Edward Bolitho, OBE. Other Guests included Colonel Tony Butterfield, Honorary Colonel; Lt Colonel Peter Adams, Deputy Chief Executive, The Wessex RFCA; Chairman of Cornwall Council, Mr John Wood and Mrs Jean Wood together with Councillor Andrew Wallis.
During his visit, Colonel Edward Bolitho OBE presented the Cadet Force Medals to Captain Derek Williams and Lt Ross Williams. The Medal represents completion of twelve years’ service. Major Hilary Geach was presented with her Second Clasp to the Cadet Force medal representing a total of twenty-four years of Voluntary Service.
Also presented were the Commissioning Parchments to Captain Chris Quelcuti and Captain Keith Ridgment. An ex Cadet Jenny
Promotions
A promotion for any Army Cadet is
both memorable and achievable and demonstrates the devotion of the adult instructor in giving valuable teaching of many subjects, skills and examples of good leadership. Many of the skills obtained
by the Cadets are transferable in today’s working environment.
Likewise, it is a rare occasion when two ACF Officers are promoted together having been commissioned at the same time, were promoted to Captain. These officers were Lt Chris Quelcuti and Keith Ridgment who received their new Captains’ badges of rank from the Commandant Colonel Les Donnithorne.

McGuire, who achieved the rank of Cadet RSM, and who is in
the middle of a three year Adult Nursing BSc degree at Plymouth University, was presented with her beret, rank slide and belt of The Queens Alexandra Royal Army Nursing Corp by Colonel Bolitho.
Jenny is sponsored by the Army Nursing Cadetship and is now gazetted as a Second Lieutenant.
Cadets in the Community
Their Royal Highnesses The Duke & Duchess of Cornwall visited Looe, during which the Looe Army Cadets under the command of the Platoon Commander
Adult Instructor, Company Serjeant Major Jonathon Geach. Prince Charles was
most interested in various aspects of the Army Cadets, and enquired who gave the loudest orders. The Duchess insisted having noticed the Cadets’ Bugle Cap badge, on approaching and talking to the Cadets.

First Aid At Work (FAAW)
SMI Tony Allen who is the Cornwall First Aid Training Officer has conducted several First Aid at Work (FAAW) courses over the last year
with another four Cadet Forces
Adult Volunteers who gained their qualification over the first weekend of Annual Camp. Cornwall ACF has now 63 Adult Instructors with this valuable qualification. This is such an important life skill which some employers even look at to give pay increases to staff who hold a current qualification.
They will now progress to undertake Casualty Simulation courses.
