Medals were presented to Col David Howells (the last Commandant), Captain Duncan Hill and SSjt Instructor Simon Jones.
The Duke of Kent, when visiting the Devon County Show in May, called at the Devon ACF stand were he spoke to Cadets Bonnie Shapland-Hills and Bethany Harrow of Okehampton. The Duke is no stranger to Devon ACF as previously he had opened the new Cadet Detachment Centre in Newton Abbot which provides outstanding facilities for both Army and Air Cadets.
It is not very often that cadet musicians have the opportunity to receive training from some of the best military musicians in the Services, so a day of instruction from members of the Royal Marine Band based at the CTC Lympstone was a highlight for members of our Corps of Drums.
Later, Major Peter Pritchard and his team of instructors organised Outreach 14 which was undertaken at RAF St Mawgan in May. This event provided a number of underprivileged youngsters with an insight to the ACF and introduced them to some challenging activities aimed at developing ability, teamwork and self-confidence. The week-long residential course was followed by the successful participants attending an Awards Evening in early July.
All attention was then given to the preparation of Annual Camp which is to be held at Folkestone, during which every cadet will be given the opportunity to visit Disney Land Paris on their “day out” ; an opportunity not to be missed and from which we hope they’ll all return!
