CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
A Happy New Year to you all.
I was invited to an event at the Corby Cube to celebrate the success of Tokyo
2020 Olympians who live and or train in Northamptonshire. Charlotte Worthington BMX Gold medallist and Declan Brookes BMX Bronze medallist trained at Adrenaline Alley in Corby. Charlotte has only been participating in BMX for 5 years and is
the first woman in the sport to perform
a 360-degree backflip. Paralympian Maisie Summers-Newton won gold in the 200m Individual Medley and the 100m Breaststroke and Will Perry took part in the Mixed Freestyle Relay and Individual Medley. Both swim for Northampton swimming club but also train at the Corby pool. Inspiring young athletes who talked about themselves and their sport during a great Q&A session.
Joe Kemp a serving member of the RAF was chosen to lay the drum on the drum altar at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall. Joe a Thrapston boy and former pupil of King John and Prince William Schools was originally
a percussionist in the Royal Marines in
Portsmouth but now plays for the RAF band closer to home, well done Joe, a great honour.
The planned
Christmas Festival had
to be changed due to the
high winds forecast by the Met office. The stage acts performed in the Plaza, Mickey and Minnie Mouse came to visit along with Father Christmas with his sleigh and elves giving presents to the children. The side stall games sponsored by local businesses, the children’s Craft tent and the Co-op stall moved into St James Church Hall with their kind permission. I was helped by family and friends to provide refreshments and mulled wine in the Plaza along with a raffle for three Hampers to support my chosen charity Northamptonshire Domestic Abuse service. I am thrilled to say we raised an amazing £939.21.
