WHAT’S ON
Getting out and about...
THRAPSTON PLAZA OPERA AUDITIONS
Sunday 2nd July at 2pm in Thrapston Plaza.
Next season Thrapston Plaza Opera are planning to perform two operas.
On Sunday 26th November there will be a concert performance of Humperdinck’s well known ‘Hansel and Gretel’ in St James Church.
The main fully staged production will
be Donizetti’s ‘The Elixir of Love’ - another favourite in the opera repertoire - on 22nd, 23rd & 24th February 2024.
Audition day is an opportunity to see what local amateur opera-making is all about and to take part in a short informal ‘warm up’ sing-along with present chorus members. More experienced singers will then have the opportunity to audition for the rôle of their choice.
‘Hansel and Gretel’, first performed 1893 in Weimar, has four principal rôles and three minor rôles with a small chorus at the end.
‘The Elixir of Love’, first performed in
1832 in Milan, is a fast moving romantic comedy which has always been popular in the repertoire.
There are four major roles and one smaller role with a lot of chorus singing and dancing throughout!
This will be Thrapston Plaza Opera’s 13th annual full production.
Previous titles have included Carmen,
Aida, Madam Butterfly, La Traviata and The Merry Widow. The Company performs with 25 singers on stage and 18 instrumentalist in the orchestra. Extra help backstage with set construction, scenery, props, costume and make up is always welcome.
