 2 Welcome
be reported separately. Two of the most frequent comments were on the lines of “never know what’s going on”, closely followed by “constantly bombarded with emails from the club” illustrating just how hard it is to keep everyone happy.
2018 was a year of significant change and investment in the club, but with some unexpected expenses and cost overruns we started 2019 with a deficit which we have worked hard to repair during the year, making 2019 a year of consolidation and the husbanding of our resources. As part of this and reflecting past patterns
of attendance, from October through to Spring 2020 the club will open from Friday
through to Sunday afternoon, with just the office open Tuesday to Thursday. We are hoping that you will treat Friday night as club night, and come along to meet friends, enjoy pre-dinner drinks, and perhaps stay for dinner or supper. This is your club. Please use if!
I can’t begin to tell you how proud I am to be associated with such a fantastic
club as SYC. We are truly lucky with
our situation, the building, our views, the sailing and a band of staff and volunteers who work hard to make our membership enjoyable and successful. Jules and her team in the office, Jo, Scott and their teams are all doing their utmost to serve you
best. As Commodore I am magnificently supported by my dedicated team of
flag officers, members of our various committees as well as many members who “without portfolio” contribute massively behind the scenes. I thank them all and they all deserve your support.
Lastly a mention for our friends in the harbour office and on the lifeboat team. They support and facilitate our sport in so many ways and we are fortunate to have such good relations with them. Give them a wave and a smile as you sail by.
That’s all from me. Enjoy the rest of MASTHEAD!
Andy Savell
