 CRUISER REPORT 2019 2019 was another good year for Salcombe Cruisers with strong
attendance at all the rallies and a sprinkling of new boats and new owners adding variety to the fleet.
the SYC fleet. Once again Sutton Harbour looked after us with their usual efficiency and didn’t object when we nearly sank their pontoon at the pre-dinner drinks party.
The late May Bank Holiday provided the 3 days we really needed for our annual
trip, this time excellently organised by Graham Nurser with a dinghy trip upriver
to Golant for their beer festival on the Saturday, followed by a new boat party on and around Juju that evening. Sunday was a much gentler affair of walks ashore and general boat bimbling before the traditional pontoon party and dinner at the Royal Fowey Yacht Club, where we were lucky
to have just been in time to catch their steward and chef the day before they left for pastures new overseas. Monday and the race back to Plymouth gave a dead
run in 12-15 knots of around 40 miles where Peter Sandover with ace crew Roger Tushingham demonstrated the advantage
  RALLIES
This year all rally organisers seem to have added a little variety to our tried and tested formula. We started off in Dartmouth where Peter Waring organised an inaugural visit to Dartmouth Yacht Club on the town side, with moorings in Darthaven. Unfortunately, this rally coincided with one of the spring gale weekends which prevented anyone making it by sea and the berthing plan
was redundant. However, the Salcombe
Motoring Section ventured forth and around 30 of our members had a fantastic evening at DYC – we will be back and hopefully by sea this time!
The first successful rally by sea was to Plymouth where Johnny and Kim, being between boats, organised the rally and hitched a lift with Graham and Wendy Nurser on Mulberry, a very smart Moody 31 and the first of several new additions to
