 And so, to our events...
Once again, our mini Cadet Regatta ran
at the end of Whitsun Week. The regatta commenced with RYA Courses and concluded with Regatta Day. During this Cadet week we also held the second David Jayne Memorial Cadet Race which has now become an annual fixture and
the future generation of Yawl sailors look forward to it! The Friday of the May Half term was also our RYA “Push the Boat Out Day” when we opened the Club to visitors and shared the experience of sailing too. This will be repeated next year.
With the onset of high summer and the Regatta Weeks, once again the Club and Estuary were at their busiest. Salcombe Gin SYC Regatta gets better each year, and this year was testament to that. Indeed,
we had 16 more boats entered than
last year which is impressive against the national trend. It was hard dealing with full on gales in August, but the close fought competition and social events were all very special gatherings and the Salcombe Gin prizes were acknowledged as stylish and generous. Thank you Salcombe Gin!
The Tropic Breeze Sundowner Evening
Race Series runs at the end of the third week in August with races at 17.00. The series ended with a BBQ, Reggae Music and Rum Punch all round thanks to our sponsors and we could almost hear the sound of swaying palm trees in the SYC bar.
Pause for thought:
Who gave you your first sailing experience in a boat? Can you give that opportunity to others? Why not arrange to sail one of the Club Boats with a friend and introduce another fortunate person to our wonderful sport? Age is not a barrier.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to be encouraging to others. I love the beach and slipway banter and the fact that there is good racing across the whole of our fleets. Even if you find
yourself adrift from the
racing pack a flypast
of Oyster Catchers
can give you a reality
check that only
mother nature can
provide.
The Bon viveur
on the Yacht Club Terrace is special, sailing in the Estuary (okay – technically a Ria) is a treasure to enjoy and the excitement of the start line is certainly good for the heart! Jayne Morris
