To leave a lasting memorial for the Thrapston 800 Celebrations in 2005, Thrapston Town
the repairs and upgrades, the clock retains
its original appearance and is shown under restoration in 2007 (EDF), as is a fragment of the original label applied by Mr Cottingham which was found during the work.
  Council agreed to fund restoration
of the clock to working order. Grants were received from the Manifold Trust, the Pilgrim Trust and East Northants Council, the latter to provide a means of commemorating the Queen’s 80th Birthday, to assist with the costs.

Many years ago, shortly after moving to the town I found a 1930 copy of a Northamptonshire magazine in which there was a short item on Thrapston headed “A town with no history”. How wrong can you be!

of 2007. The clock mechanism and hammers were removed and taken to Derby for repair and refurbishment. A new chime and strike unit was made, the original 1900 electromagnetic solenoid was checked and rewound, and a new Smith of Derby master clock manufactured. New auto winding equipment was installed which was originally hand wound. Despite
