Dear Friends,
This month we conclude preaching through the book of James. The services will have the following themes and preachers.
It was with great sadness that members of
the Catholic Church in Thrapston learnt of
the death of our former Parish Priest, Brian Leatherland who died on 16th September aged 79 years.
Some may remember Brian in the 1980s as the Vicar of St Peter’s Raunds. It was early in the 1990s, having resigned from Raunds, that he was received as a convert into the Catholic Church, together with his wife Sally and two children.
Brian then undertook further theological training and was ordained as a Catholic Priest in January 1998 for the Diocese of Northampton. He served in parishes in Kettering and Wellingborough before being appointed to St Paul’s Thrapston in 2005.
Father Brian was our Parish Priest for 13 years until he retired in 2018. In that time he built up the Catholic communities not only in Thrapston but in a wide area from Raunds to well beyond Oundle, such was the extent of his parish responsibilities. He was well loved for his enthusiasm and commitment building up children’s liturgy classes, developing the altar serving guild and encouraging adult study groups.
Despite suffering from ill health in later years, Father Brian continued to ensure that the spiritual needs of the local Catholic community were fully met.
His funeral took place at the Church of Our Lady Help of Christians & St Lawrence in Olney on 28th September with a Requiem Mass attended by many from Thrapston.
May he rest in peace.
