 BRONZE D OF E
 EXPEDITION
By Corporal Lucia Malster-Hinett
We were taken by minibus to Thornton-le-Dale
on 22 June, leaving 110 (City of York) Squadron at 0800. After arriving at the main junction at 0900, we headed through two kilometres of farmland before arriving at Pickering, where we took our first break of the day and had a water refill, alongside a small snack. Around halfway through leg two, we had an early lunch in a scenic area off a public footpath.
We then handrailed the railway line to Park Gate footpath junction, where we took a short rest before heading through High Blansby, and finally, Newton- on-Rawcliffe. Arriving at 1510, it was there that we set up camp, ate our final meal of the day and went to sleep around 2300.
Reveille was at 0650 for the second day of our expedition, and, with breakfast eaten and all tents cleared by 0840, we set off ten minutes earlier
than set on the route card - at 0850. From there we walked along a public footpath and through some farmland, where we took a wrong turn and realised this when we found ourselves at a dead end, costing us around five to ten minutes of time. Despite this, we got to the rifle range junction on time, and with morale high, arrived at Pickering Library forty minutes early. We ate lunch on benches outside the library and set off from there at 1340. Morale took a dip on leg four - the process of going through field after field was beginning to get dull, and everyone

was looking forward to being able to remove their bags and get on the coach. With a pep talk before the last leg, however, everybody was keen and ready to complete leg five. We arrived at NY500 Cafe at 1510, thus completing the expedition. It is safe to say that the experience has been, despite its challenges, enjoyable for all involved.
The team members who took part, apart from the writer who is from 399 (Beverley) Squadron, all from 110 Squadron were Cadets Danai Beaumont, Matilda Pratt, Karla-Jo Rattray, Louis Seabourne, Leo Van Der Arend and Zachariah Wahl.
I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and am looking forward to participating in the Silver expedition next year.
