READ SCHOOL CCF REBADGES TO THE ROYAL YORKSHIRE REGIMENT
By Lieutenant Sarah Rothwell
During May of 2024 Read School CCF affirmed
its newly established affiliation with The Royal Yorkshire Regiment. To celebrate we were joined by Lieutenant Colonel Richard Hill, CO 4th Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment and several other dignitaries. The celebrations started with an outside lunch accompanied by an ensemble from The Regimental Band 4th Battalion Royal Yorkshire Regiment.
At a gathering of parents, CCF staff and guests, the audience was captivated by an enlightening presentation delivered by cadets who reflected
on their remarkable 18-month journey in CCF,
this encompassed a diverse range of experiences, ranging from Army and RAF camps and competitions, our year 8 recruitment activities, a Cyprus trip, experiences from quieter cadets who have had
their confidence boosted by taking part in CCF, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire’s Cadet and his role, community engagement initiatives, DofE at all three levels and much more.
The rebadging ceremony then began with Colonel Hill talking to cadets about the esteemed legacy of

The Royal Yorkshire Regiment. Together with Ruth Ainley, the Head of the school, and WO2 Martin Field, berets were ceremoniously handed to the Army contingent, symbolising our new affiliation.
Following this was a number of exciting stands for cadets to visit including a weapons stand kindly supported by volunteers from The Royal Yorkshire Regiment, a recruitment stand, a crash simulation exercise to put cadets first aid training to the test, STEM activities; the day brimmed with hands-on learning experiences. There was a spider’s web team command task and field craft. Section attack training further enriched the cadets’ understanding of military practices and showed their Skill at Arms training.
The final parade involved promotions and the awarding of certificates to both Army and RAF cadets, underlining their dedication and achievements.
Thank you to all contributors who facilitated the success of the event.
