THE ENGINEERS
OF THE FUTURE!
By Lieutenant Scott Baker
On Wednesday 27th October 2021, two lucky cadets from Yorkshire (North & West) ACF attended the annual "Exercise STEM Challenge" at Prince William of Gloucester Barracks in Grantham.
Cadets Jada Omondi and Adrian Tyrowicz from E (The Rifles) Company got hands-on with some of the Army's latest technology and took part in a number of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) activities that were set by the soldiers and officers from the participating regiments/corps. These included the Royal Artillery, the Royal Signals, the Royal Armoured Corps, the Royal Engineers, the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and the Royal Logistics Corps.
The County STEM Officer, Lt Scott Baker said; "Ex STEM Challenge is a great opportunity for our cadets to see how the same
STEM subjects they study at school are used by members of the armed forces in their daily lives. It highlights the breadth of different job roles that are available in the British Army and provides insight into what the armed forces of the future is likely to look like."
He added, "Anyone interested in attending next year's Ex STEM Challenge should register their interest with the County STEM Officer via their chain of command - further details will follow in due course."

Otley Detachment Cadet receives Royal recognition
On Thursday 27th October 2021, Otley Detachment's Cadet Sergeant Alex Jeanguillaume travelled to London to take part in a prestigious awards ceremony at Haberdashers' Hall.
Situated in the historic City of London, the Hall was the venue for the Royal Humane Society's Annual Awards presentation with HRH Princess Alexandra as the guest of honour.
The Royal Humane Society is a charity that grants awards for acts of bravery in the saving of human life, and Cadet Sgt Jeanguillaume was there as a result of an act of selfless bravery in an attempt to protect a friend from a knife attack in 2019. Although only 15 years old at the time, this brave teenager stood up to a knife-wielding adult who had demanded their phones, then moved to attack the friend when they refused.
The County Commandant, Colonel Jim Greenlee, who also attended the ceremony, said, "This is an outstanding award for a remarkable teenager who exemplifies the devotion to friends, family and community that we seek to develop in all of our members."
