KARLAH BEGINS
Media Training Session
During April, Flight Lieutenant Luke Clifford- Roper-Smith delivered an introductory session on squadron media and communications skills to his squadron.
The purpose of this session was to teach cadets how to write a very brief press notice, with a view to helping the squadron share progress and activity reports with the wider squadron community.
The session began by looking at how
to structure an article, ensuring the key information is conveyed first, followed by the additional detail. They also learned how to take some accompanying photos and video footage, to help convey their message and make the article more personal. We look forward to future articles written by the cadets.
EXPEDITION
LEADER TRAINING
During March, Ms Karlah Coan, Civilian Instructor with 1324 (Hawker Blackburn) Squadron completed her first of 5 weekend training sessions on the Lowland Expedition Leaders course (LEL) at the RAF Air Cadet Adventurous Training Centre.
Located amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Lake District, the course is a specialised training programme designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to plan and lead safe expeditions in lowland environments, covering a wide range of topics, including wilderness navigation, outdoor survival skills, group management, risk assessment, environmental awareness, and leadership development.
Additional weekends throughout the spring and summer will be focused on consolidating the learning, planning and undertaking practice expeditions with cadets and honing the practical skills needed to lead and undertake safe expeditions.
Karlah is very excited to be able to share her learning with both cadets and staff alike and looks forward to supporting 1324 Squadron with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
