It was in the Officers’ Mess as the PMC that she is possibly best remembered in 256 Fd Hosp. She organised some fabulous events both internally and externally. She was always fun to be around, and her karaoke renditions of Madonna hits will live in the memories of those who saw them for many years to come. She was a force for good and always made everyone feel very welcome. She was well liked by all and she was the life and soul of the party. She will be sorely missed by all her friends in the unit. Denise was also well known amongst the AMS ski teams and spent several years enjoying winter sports with 2 Med Bde. As ever Denise enjoyed the après ski as much as the slopes.
She was very interested in local politics and served as a Liberal Democrat Councillor prior to becoming the Mayor of Southwark in 2002. She went on to serve as the Executive Member for Health and Social Care in 2006/7. Denise was often seen campaigning with Simon Hughes MP, listening to residents concerns and she was a regular at the Party conferences.
Denise enjoyed good lunches and holidays with friends and had a special love for Spain, appearing on ‘A Place In The Sun’. She found her dream
Denise Capstick in Afghanistan
apartment in Guardemar and managed to spend several holidays there before and during her illness with family and friends.
Above all, Denise was a wonderful person. She was a very kind, generous, hardworking, compassionate and fun loving woman who served her country,
her borough and community with great enthusiasm and joy. Denise will be greatly missed by Andy and Janet and her wider family, her dog Millie, and all of her many friends in military, nursing, civic and personal life.

Association
Membership
Although we are currently working from home we have been able to continue to welcome new members into The Association. I have been working closely with the branches to keep our membership records up to date so we can reach out to everyone during these difficult times.
I am lucky enough to be able to chat with many members in my role and it is always great to hear how everyone is getting on.
Our over 80s members get flowers on their birthday and it is always a highlight of my day when we hear that the delivery has brought a smile to someone’s face.
We also sent out some gifts and flowers in the new year and again it was lovely to hear that these deliveries brightened what can be a dull January day.
If you need to contact me to update your details or would like to find out more about joining a branch then I can be contacted on admin@qarancassociation.org.uk or 07761 144137.
