Major Jane Beaumont 13 April 1964–18 August 2020
A wonderfully cheerful nurse and former midwife, Major Jane Beaumont was a hugely active member of 335 Medical Evacuation Regiment. Affectionately known as ‘Lady Jane’ by her colleagues in the Officers’ Mess, as an Army Reservist, Jane was an enthusiastic, upright and caring officer, always quick to turn her skills to training, support and mentoring. A wealth of experience, Jane qualified as a nurse in late 1986.
Regular service beckoned and between 1988 – 1990 Jane held a
Short Service Commission in the QARANC. Having transferred to the Reserve space, Jane joined 212 Field Hospital and onwards to 243 (Wessex) Field Hospital. Later, Jane became a midwife, qualifying in July 2004 and embarked upon FTRS 2006 – 2008 and between August 2006 and February 2007 served as a midwife (Captain) at the Princess Mary Hospital, followed by a stint at MDHU Frimley Park from October 2007 to May 2008. In 2011 Jane joined a nationally recruited unit in the form of 306 Hospital Support Regiment and established herself as a valuable and loyal member of the unit. Later that year, Jane commenced a mobilisation trail in preparation for deployment on Op TOSCA where she completed a most successful UN Peacekeeping tour having been based at Akotiri. Upon her return, Jane re- joined her parent unit and continued to add significant value to the Army Medical Services community. In 2014, she joined 335 Medical Evacuation Regiment where she immediately made her mark with her supportive and caring demeanour. Much loved by

both soldiers and officers alike, Jane was often the ‘go to’ person for advice and was held in high regard by all who met her.
During her career, Jane was awarded the VRSM with two further clasps to the medal, together with the UNFICYP Cyprus medal for Op TOSCA, as well as both Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals.
The tragic victim of a road traffic accident on 18 August 2020, the gap that Jane leaves in the Regiment is huge, yet pales into insignificance compared to the loss felt by her loving family. Major Jane Beaumont was the archetypal role model and is already most sadly missed.
