Silent Earth
by Dave Goulson
This book has changed the way I
look at my allotment, my garden, the countryside, all insects and wildlife. It has changed the way I interact with my grandsons. Pretty much it has changed my life and greatly influenced me in my role as London Regional Representative. This book is the best advocacy, on many levels, of the benefits of allotments – not just for the things in the allotment (insects, plants, weeds, people etc.)
but also things near and outside the allotment (insects, plants, weeds, people etc.).
Dave Goulson is Professor of Biology at the University of Sussex, a Fellow
of the Royal Entomological Society, a trustee of Pesticide Action Network, an Ambassador for the UK Wildlife Trusts and a co-founder of The Bumble Bee Conservation Trust. Not only is he a
prolific, brilliant author with a knack of presenting sound research in a clear and entertaining way, he has a sense of humour which, amazingly given the circumstances, is never too far below the surface and that is whether you are reading one of his books or attending one of his talks.
No 1. Please read this book.
No 2. Attend a Dave Goulson talk if you can.
Go on, treat yourself / or at least put it on your birthday list!
