aiding in the others. Most recently we have seen the biggest Sporting Military Event the Commander British Forces (CBF) Cup being run out of Dhekelia Station. This event is opened by a parachutist from the Adventurous Training Wing who presents Commander BFC with the rugby ball, before starting the cross country. There is a total of 11 different sports to test every units sporting prowess ranging from golf to rugby and of course as mentioned cross country. All units/Stations from BFC come together to take part in this great sporting event, this year we saw over 300 competitors participating in a very close competition which in the end saw Akrotiri Station taking the title after winning 5 of the events during the day.
Dhekelia is a great location for physical training, Sport and AT. Everything is not too far away and on top of that we have beautiful weather. As well as working hard we get the reward of the sunshine and quality family time in this great location.

Another rewarding year at JSSU (Cyprus) which has seen a much welcomed influx of AAPTI’s who all play an active role ensuring that the Station stay fit, healthy and robust. A newly posted in RSM has seen the Command Group pull themselves away from a busy operational work schedule and attend more PT, which has had a positive effect on PT attendance across the unit. We have recently introduced a CO’s Cup competition which has been inclusive of; volleyball, football and cross country, more to follow. This has resulted in some healthy competiveness and brought the sub-units closer together. Wherever there is opportunity to get involved with an event physically I jump at the opportunity. Firstly, to lead by example to the AAPTIs and secondly to demonstrate to unit personnel and the community that it doesn’t matter what
your ability is, you can still get involved and have fun. Cyprus has many physical, sporting and challenging pursuits, it would be a shame not to throw yourself into them head first. The Gym Staff at JSSU (Cyprus) has recently been awarded a Commander British Forces Cyprus (CBF) Team Commendation for its dedication, hard work and excellence in the delivery of fitness across British Forces Cyprus and commitment to support charities. Unfortunately, my team which had worked hard for this award had moved on by the time of the ceremony, leaving me to collect the award on their behalf. I feel immensely proud of my team and what we have achieved, long may the JSSU (Cyprus) Gym Staff continue to lead the way.
