This year started with a Type 3 JSAT Expedition to the glorious mountain range of South Africa. The trip leads the group over a challenging self-reliant 10 day trip up through the Drakensberg’s Mountains. The Drakensberg is the name given to the eastern portion of the Great Escarpment, which encloses the central Southern African plateau. The Great Escarpment reaches its greatest elevation in this region – 2,000 to 3,482 metres. Each participant leaves South Africa not only with great experiences, fantastic memories but also awarded the Summer Mountain Foundation award, which promotes them to continue within the JSAT scheme.
4 SCOTS had a busy sporting year even through the deployment of the Battalion on Op Shader for the first half of their Operational year. This gave me the opportunity to replace my ‘woolly hat’ with an Olympic bar and quality nutrition and compete in the Army strength Challenge at Thirsk truck show under the management of Miss Gemma Taylor (Ex Britain’s strongest women and world record holder). Finishing 5th overall I walked away with my head high and a better appreciation of what strongmen push their bodies too.

Inter Bn Boxing – 4SCOTS Vs RDG
2017 Highland Games was opened up to Catterick Garrison, using all of the traditional games with the edition of a strongman event, over seen by Mr Gary Gardner ‘World’s strongest man competitor’. With great competition and true team spirit throughout the day, RDG took first place leaving low heads with 4 SCOTS.
The Inter Coy Boxing competition produced a range of new talent which we utilised for the Inter Bn Boxing competition of 4 SCOTS vs. RDG in Dec 17. 4 SCOTS came out to redeem their loss for the ‘Highland games’ with monumental result of 9-0.
