HEADQUARTERS 4TH INFANTRY BRIGADE AND HEADQUARTERS NORTH EAST
Capt (MAA) SA Chappell RAPTC
Well, it had to happen eventually. Me sitting down and writing notes for the MBS. It comes around every year, and I’ve found myself thumbing through last year’s edition, looking for inspiration. What a year...(completely plagiarised)! By the time MBS hits the mail room, I will have moved on. It’s been a great job, busy as all jobs are, and I’ve loved it. Supported by WO2 (QMSI) Tracey Hetherington, we have managed everything PD in the North East.
The sporting facilities, in the North, are somewhat old and in need of investment. The Team Catterick Initiative (TCI), a committee represented by Army infra, HC, RC and ASCB, looked to address the sports facilities. Fast forward a year, from its inception in 2016

2Sig Regt are situated in the centre of York, Imphal Bks. Although I am the 2 Sig Regt QMSI, I run the Garrison Gymnasium. Within Imphal Bks, we have 2 Sig Regt, HQ 1
UK Div and several sub-units, one being Special Infantry Group. 2 Sig Regt are a very active unit and support a lot of the UK operations and on a wider scale; they have a number of individuals deployed on operations, in 16 different countries worldwide. The gym was quite dated when I arrived, which made it challenging to
implement the new APTS and include it in to all our PTP’s. It did, however, give me the opportunity to provide Career Professional Development (CPD) for the AAPTI’s to assist them in their delivery of the Physical Training Programme (PTP’s) and the APTS. Finally, 2 Sig Regt hosts Race the Sun (RTS), which takes place annually and has 15 events; it provides a great opportunity for the Corps of the Royal Signals to engage with both the military and wider community.
and a new hockey pitch will be delivered, funded by the ASCB. TCI will look to deliver two 4G football pitches and a new sport pavilion and grass cricket pitch, if funding allows.
The delivery of the Army Physical Training System (APTS), has been challenging for the RAPTCIs. Like all areas, it’s about the RAPTCIs on the ground, who are implementing the new policy. It’s been a pleasure to work alongside excellent instructors, some whom will go all the way. Congratulations to SSgt (SSI) Arkless, SSgt (SSI) Armstrong, SSgt (SSI) MacLaughlan, SSgt (SSI) Stephenson and Sgt (SI) Syrett who promoted this year, from the AOR. To all the other Instructors’, thank you for your hard work and good luck for the future.
