Dear Desert Rats, May your glory ever shine! May your laurels never fade!
This is my third MBS submission as 7X SO3 PD and I must admit the time has flown past. The role has been busy and challenging but enjoyable. I have certainly missed not having a QMSI PD for almost two years. Just having someone in the car on the long journeys around the AOR (larger than Belgium) would have helped and possibly stopped me from crashing 2 cars!
The Bde enjoyed an extremely busy Training Year (2017) committing to various Operations which included, Op SHADER, Op TRENTON, Op FIRIC and Op CABRIT. To compliment these Operations, the Bde have deployed on many Exercises including, Ex DIAMONDBACK, Ex RATTLESNAKE, Ex AJEYA WARRIOR, ASKARI STORM and more recently (in our committed year at Readiness), Ex WESSEX STORM and Ex WARFIGHTER (in
the USA) to name but a few. We are also at the ready for Op TEMPERER when called upon!
Our Overseas Engagement and Capacity Building continues to be strong in West Africa (Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ghana) and the PD Branch has been tasked to liaise with the Ghanaian Army to review their PD programme at the Officers Training College. This will be a task for my replacement, Capt Willie Wilson – good luck and I am disappointed I missed this opportunity.
The UK Engagement and Homeland Resilience goes from strength to strength with the Engagement and Cadet training teams working with the local communities, cadets forces, youth projects and working alongside ethnic minorities. Projects are on-going with focus in the Nottingham and Leicester areas. Many RAPTCIs have been involved with many projects which include
Le Petit Vignemale (3,050m) followed by a four day expedition crossing over from France into Spain.
2017 came to a close with the Regiment taking part in the annual Commanding Officer’s Santa run whilst raising money for the Army Benevolent Fund. It has been a busy and challenging period at the Regiment since I have arrived and I’m sure that will continue. I look forward to what the remainder of my assignment may bring.
Bde HQ staff on the Ranges – I am the one in the middle!
