Sgt (SI) Podmore arrived straight from the ERI course and immediately assumed the role as the College lead Boxing Coach, he achieved this by attending the Level 1 Boxing coaching course (with the legendary Micky Gannon). He played an integral part in what was an excellent Boxing event. The standard of boxing was testament to his dedication to the task. As well as these secondary duties he has been working hard to consolidate all that he was taught on the ERI course, all of which he has done to the very highest of standards.
Capt (MAA) James will leave the AFC on the 5 Apr and hand over to Capt (MAA) Hames.
Chris I would suggest you get your head around all things D&I very quickly there is lots of it here at the AFC. Capt (MAA) James won the UK North Female Cycling League Category.

2017 has been another busy year at the Army Foundation College (AFC (H). There have been a number of transitions amongst the key personalities within Fox Company, bringing positive changes to the Company over the course of the year.
In the L&IT Department Capt Millwater AGC (ETS) has taken over the post of OIC L&IT joining the established team of SSgt (SSI) Hanna, Sgt (SI) Kirkbright and Sgt (SI) Ashton. Capt Millwater has used her training design experience from her ETS background to redesign the training packages utilising the vast Adventurous Training (AT) knowledge we have within the department. This is accumulated within 4 separate one week packages:
L&IT 1: is a weeklong Command Leadership and Foundation Cadre (CLFC) has been redeveloped this year to incorporate Mental Resilience Training. This builds upon the original package which focused on the practical application of team building skills, foundation and the Army Leadership Code.
L&IT 2: is a weeklong Multi-Activity package which is undoubtedly the favorite amongst the JS. L&IT 2 gives the JS the opportunity to work outside of their comfort zone, conquer fears and develop key military skills such as team work and problem solving whilst undertaking AT Activities such as Caving, Climbing and Paddling.
Junior Soldiers Mountaineering
L&IT 3: is a weeklong Mountaineering package designed to develop the JS navigation skills. With clearance now granted for the Lake District, the JS now have the opportunity to put into practice, the skills they have learnt during CMS lessons over more challenging terrain.
L&IT 1, 2 & 3 develop both key military and personal skills within the JS. They are the building blocks needed for L&IT 4. The JS develop coping strategies, leadership and teamwork through controlled exposure to risk. The JS are educated how the skills learnt during these packages will enhance the operational capability throughout the rest of their careers.
L&IT4 – Ex Junior Long Reach is designed to access the skills and attributes developed during L&IT 1, 2 & 3. This package comprises of the planning and execution of a 48 hour patrol across the Yorkshire Dales un-assisted by their Permanent Staff (PS). L&IT 4 also acts as the expedition phase of the JS Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
In summary the L&IT package is a fantastic tool used by the College. Performance is under constant evaluation and the team strive to deliver the best training package available to the JS whilst they are at the Army Foundation College. To do this the team evaluate every package delivered and put forth recommendations for improvement on future training.
It has been another busy year within HQ ITG and my feet are firmly under the table, albeit not yet on the ground! I am finding that the role of SMI
G7 brings its rewards, particularly as it provides the opportunity to manage change and observe the benefits. There has been a reorganisation of the formation and as at April 18 HQ ITG will be managed and administered by Sandhurst Group who will be newly appointed as lead for all initial Officer and Soldier basic training (no longer known as Phase 1).
The Common Military Syllabus (CMS) was last reviewed in 2014 and since it is now 2018, with an ever increasing draw on resources it has been necessary to completely revisit the rationale behind what we do and how we do it. Rewriting the CMS is a major tasking which is both sensitive of and in support of the newly developed Army Physical

Training System. Capt (MAA) ‘Tom’ Sawyer has been an integral part of the HQ ITG Team and has been a stalwart in developing CMS 18 incorporating the Army Physical Training System (APTS) in line with programme Training Human Optimisation for Readiness (THOR). He will be leaving the Army after 23 years’ Service and I would like to wish him personally a big thank you for supporting me professionally and personally; he has been a great mentor and wish his family all the luck with their endeavours.
ITG have conducted 2nd LoD Assurance Visits, as at today, this year, we have conducted formal visits to all of the Army Training Units, Grantham, ATC Pirbright and ATR Winchester. These offer the host feedback to develop areas that are identified and presents an opportunity to share best practise
