The P&RTC at AFC(H) continues to provide physical training for the 2000 or so Junior Soldiers (JS) that are embarking on their military careers with us each year. Catering for the JS on the junior entry long, and short courses, there is no busier department within the College and every single member of the team contributes and adds value to the project.
Our team comprises the P&RTC 2IC – SSgt (SSI) Mark Radcliffe (soon to be posted on a well-earned promotion to ITC Catterick), 2 syndicate leaders, Sgt (SI) Chris Brand and Sgt (SI) Michael Chadwick, 11 AAPTIs and 9 TQ civilian staff. We work directly to Maj (MAA) Hendrickson as our Fox Coy OC and his deputy WO1 (SMI) McKinsley, the Coy 2IC. The P&RTC team is one of four within Fox Coy.
The wheel at the AFC continues to turn, often at a rapid rate of knots and the first part of my tour has been unrelenting. The College continues to support UK (North) sporting events: Duathlon, Squash, Tennis, Triathlon, Cross Country, Badminton, Road Cycling
Internally, the Mallon Trophy provides the JS with excellent opportunities to compete. The Trophy is competed for in: Cross Country, Military Skills (formerly Endurance), Swimming, PFA exposure
Alongside, we have recently set up a winter sports competition for both the permanent staff and the JS where they compete side by side in a multitude of sporting events. All long course JS attend the Sport and Skill package, taking part regularly in a whole host of evening activities that count towards their Duke of Edinburgh
awards. Fox Company is an integral part of the College and the new Commanding Officer has already highlighted his intent, and our team will be at the centre of all that is good about Harrogate.
Our annual boxing event took place in Feb 2018 and was contested by 20 male and female JS. Sgt (SI) Brand headed up the event which, tested our Coy team extensively and the evening proved to be a real success, bringing the Company together, working towards the central goal.
Looking ahead, new challenges present the College with great opportunities, primarily with the re-write of the current Common Military Syllabus (CMS) 14, in which we have been afforded the opportunity to assist in the new CMS 18 design and also in developing our crop of AAPTIs as they strive to attend RAPTC Selection and hopefully in time, transfer in to the RAPTC.
Imjin/Rehab Platoon:
Capt (MAA) L James RAPTC
Another year has flown past for the Rehabilitation/Imjin Pl at the AFC. Congratulations to SSgt (SSI) Roberts who promoted and posted to1 RGR and a great move for Sgt (SI) Laker who posted to PCRF Dishforth. The platoon has seen the arrival of SSgt (SSI) Leach and Sgt Podmore who have been pivotal in improving the rehabilitation process for our injured JS. The department are in a much better place because of it.
SSgt (SSI) Leach volunteered to assume the role as UK North Triathlon Secretary, a role in which he has embraced wholeheartily and has seen excellent results. It is never easy to run a full PCRF clinic and also support the wider college and UK North Sport, however SSgt (SSI) Leach does this with ease.
