Stuttgart. The opportunity to fly the 737 as part of the simulator experience was certainly a highlight of my whole tour. Not only were the training pilots very informative, but it was also an unbelievable opportunity to fly this aircraft around San Francisco and even under the Golden Gate bridge! Aside
from all the formal functions we partook in, it was pleasant to experience some of German culture through the eyes of a civilian. For this reason, the day spent wild swimming at Lake Irsee in Bavaria and the hike through the Alps were unmissable opportunities to enjoy the German landscape and culture.
Upon reflecting on the exchange, it is difficult to conclude with a personal highlight, as the whole experience certainly strengthened my ambition and personal values, not only as a cadet but as a civilian too. Both the formal and informal aspects of the exchange broadened my horizons as an individual and I found it fascinating to visit such prestigious venues as a representative of Great Britain. It should be no surprise that the tours of, take-off and landing displays of the Eurofighter were a personal highlight, together with the visits to Airbus in Hamburg and their helicopter factory in Donauwörth.
This exchange provided me with such a valuable insight into the operations of other militaries around the globe and strengthened my understanding of the importance of maintaining good relations to ensure global cooperation. I feel honoured to have been selected for and to have participated in such an event, and there is no doubt that the exchange has shaped me as an individual for the rest of my life.
The opportunity to fly the 737 as part of the simulator experience was certainly a highlight of my whole tour
