NEWS FROM YORKSHIRE
SERVICE TO MARK THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF OUR FOUNDING FATHER
The annual service held at York Minster
in the Regimental Chapel honouring the memory of Sir John Moore, his legacy as the father of light infantry tactics, and his heroic death at the Battle of Corunna in 1809 was remembered with reverence.
Regular and Reserve members of The Rifles joined association members of The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI), Light Infantry (LI), and Royal Green Jackets (RGJ) to mark the Anniversary. Sir John Moore joined the British Army in 1776 as an ensign in the 51st Regiment of Foot, which later became The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.
The service heard the reading of Sir John Moore’s life, the Charles Wolfe poem “The Burial of Sir John Moore at Corunna” and a haunting rendition of Last Post and Reveille

ASSOCIATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Association members from across Yorkshire and the Midlands came to Pontefract for the Annual General Meeting in April. The Minden House Buglers, a tri-service veteran and civilian group of like-minded people who either want to learn how to play the bugle or wish to maintain their playing skills, provided the entertainment after the meeting.
