Memorials
The Cemetery contains three memorials, in line with one another. The first and central one is the Cross
of Sacrifice, designed by architect Sir Reginald Blomfield in 1918 and common to all Commonwealth
War Graves Commission Cemeteries around the world.3 It is overtly Christian, reflecting the majority
religion of the time. The bronze sword that adorns the cross reminds the visitor of the military nature of
the war cemeteries.
