Jungle Quad Biking Borneo
Cpl E Romain
The Dental Team organised a Team Building event to welcome me to the centre and to say goodbye to Cpl Madan Limbu. The day was also an opportunity to explore the magnificent jungles of Brunei Darussalam, which of course sounded amazing to me after only recently arriving in Brunei. What was even more exciting was that it would be with Quad Bikes!
Our team of seven members set off late morning to arrive at the Katimahar AgriPark where we met up with our tour guides. They were ready and willing to go. After the usual H&S briefs, they provided us with a basic beginner’s course on how to operate the quad bikes.
The weather was perfect, ideal for an all-terrain jungle bike ride in this absolutely stunning part of the world. The route that was planned was tremendous; it was a mixture of off-road gravel tracks, mud and dirt tracks, areas covered with heavy bush, and some parts that were on beautiful open plains where one would have the opportunity to see what the bad boys were really capable of.
We would stop for a swift break at a discrete, yet very impressive, little family zoo right in the middle of this vast rainforest. We were able to quench our thirst with the coolest coconut water we’d ever had in our lives.
We were then guided around the compound where we caught glimpses of some of the greatest quality of wildlife the isle of Borneo had to offer and also some of the rarest vegetation only found in these parts of the world.
Once we had seen as much as possible, we carried on our way, exploring further and deeper into the forest. The views and the scenery were undeniably overwhelming and we all realised what a miraculous place this was.
The tour lasted approx. 2 hours and included visiting more of the well-known attractions within the rainforest, going through muddy trails, steep inclines, and adrenaline pumping declines. There was even a moment when one of the Quad Bikes slipped into a ditch, fortunately, it was a soft landing and ‘no humans were harmed in the making of this film’.
All in all, the team was satisfied that this was time well spent, especially for Cpl Madan Limbu the outgoing PM who was, unfortunately, leaving Brunei in a few weeks, but fortunately gave him the opportunity to say good bye the British Forces Brunei way.
I also got the chance to receive a very empowering ‘Welcome to Brunei’.
