Are there any Crocs in there!
Cpl E Romain
Yet again another exciting adventure into the magnificent jungles of Borneo had been planned by team DC Seria. This time our journey would take us to the scenic Lugu Lake, just off the Jerudong highway, for a beginner level course in Stand-Up Water Paddle Boarding where we would learn the basic skills involved in the Stand- Up Paddle Boarding sport.
We arrived at the lake and as expected it was a sight to behold; the water was a pristine blue colour and the surrounding vegetation was overwhelming. However, there was one burning question on everybody’s mind before we committed further to this event.
“Are there any Crocs in there!!??”
We were reassured that there were none, so we all felt a bit more confident in carrying on.
We were given a 30 minute crash course and then we were ready to set off. The team was extremely excited; the initial phase seemed quite challenging trying our best
to stay on the boards. The balancing and paddling at the same time actually took a
bit of skill, which none of us had. This would obviously lead to numerous involuntarily plunges into the cool waters of this majestic lake. Nevertheless, we all got back on the boards and soldiered on in our journey exploring this epic environment via the graceful waterways.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable
in his field and provided us with a vast array of information about our location while we all travelled. We were lucky to see a variety of awe-inspiring jungle creatures and breath- taking vegetation only local to this part of the world.
When halfway around the lake, we
all seemed to be getting the hang of
it and were given the opportunity to
further improve our skills. This included practicing more complex turning, stopping manoeuvres, disembarking and embarking the paddleboards in a more safe and deliberate way, and a few other little tricks that would make this adventure even more exciting.
The entire course lasted approx. 2 hrs and in the end, we all felt much more confident with our boards. All in all, it was an exciting course with another enormous opportunity to explore these picturesque outdoors.
