RADC Water Polo Victory
Capt L McKirdy
17-18th October 2019 Aldershot Sports Garrison
A greatly anticipated date in the sporting calendar is the AMS Swimming and Water Polo Championships. An opportunity for Medical Regiments, Joint Hospital Groups, and Corps from all over the country to
come together and demonstrate their sporting prowess. The competition runs over 2 days and includes both individual swimming events, team relays and a water polo tournament. The overall standard of the event is high; success at the event earns you the opportunity to go on and represent the AMS at inter corps events. It is also a great opportunity to get together and catch up with some familiar faces from previous jobs and training.
RADC Team

As is the case with most sporting events, the RADC team, although small in numbers,
absolutely performs to the highest level. All team members made it to the finals in their individual events and medals were brought home by Capt Simon Fear, 3 gold medals in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, and the 100m Freestyle and Capt Oliver Richards, silver in the 100m Backstroke and bronze
in the 100m Freestyle and 100m Individual Medley.
With Day 2 of the competition came the highlight, Water Polo. We joined forces with 3 Medical Regiment to make up a team and assembled in the warm-up area ready to take on some fierce opposition. The team grew in confidence with a win in every match in the first round. Success earned the team a place in the final against a strong, well- drilled 4AMR team. It was a tight match with RADC/3 Med trailing by 2 goals at half time, a final big push and breakdown of the 4AMR defence led to a final score of 10-8, a well- deserved victory!
The AMS Swimming and Water Polo Championships is a great event and I would encourage anyone keen to take part in the 2020 event to go for it! A calling notice will be sent out closer to the event.
