The largest gathering of Regimental Standards in the North of England is held annually at Eden Camp, a living military museum near Ripon. 43 members and guests attended the event with 5 of our Standard Bearers carrying KOYLI, LI and Rifles Standards joined the parade of Standards with other members joining the parade of Veterans. For the first time at this event the Light Division and Rifles Veteran Buglers Association were asked to provide a Bugler to sound Last Post; the honour fell to Craig Rosser ex 1 LI and who is Bugle Major for E (Rifles) Company Yorkshire (N&W) ACF.
In Sep 2018 the cities of Wakefield and Leeds reverberated to the sound of the bugle and troops marching at 140 paces to the minute. The Band and Bugles of The Rifles sounded retreat in the centre of Wakefield for civic dignitaries, veterans and the public during the evening of 14 Sep 18. The next morning The Rifles exercised their Freedom of the City of Wakefield then later in the afternoon
exercised their Freedom of the City of Leeds. The guards were formed by Riflemen from 2 RIFLES, Y Coy 8 Rifles, Cadets from E (The Rifles) Company Yorkshire (N&W) ACF and the Association which included veterans from the KOYLI, LI RGJ and Rifles.
In the year that marked 100 years since the end of WWI we honoured the last of the KOYLI Victoria Cross (VC) recipients at the unveiling of their VC Centenary Stones. In Windsor on 23 October KOYLI retired officers and a KOYLI standard bearer attended the unveiling of the VC Centenary Stone for Lt Col Greenwood VC. The last one to be unveiled was in November for Sjt Lawrence Calvert VC. The ceremony took place in Leeds at the school where he attended. Branch Standard Bearers from West Leeds, Leeds and Pontefract, Association Trustees and members of Y Coy 8 RIFLES joined relatives of Sjt Calvert to pay their respects.
The annual trip for the opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey in November was very poignant being 100 years since the end of The Great War. Association members, Pete and Betty Bate; Albert and Eileen Richardson; Veronica
