3 ROYAL SCHOOL OF MILITARY ENGINEERING (3 RSME) REGIMENT
WO2 (QMSI) V Blackburn RAPTC and Sgt (SI) N Curtis RAPTC
Two years have now passed in post for both I and Sgt (SI) Curtis and albeit a very busy training year, we have thoroughly enjoyed supporting and evolving training delivery for the station and dominating the wider sporting community by hosting, participating and achieving great success.
As with all training establishments, training delivery places high demands on the troop staff and it goes without saying a good injection of AT is essential and with several multi-activity weeks in full flow throughout the year, the Regt provided a jam-packed arena of AT experience. 55 Trg Sqn, the custodians of the mighty B3 Combat Engineering course found a space in the programme and utilised it to the fullest by embarking on an AT package to Sarajevo, Bosnia. SSgt Tamang the Tp SNCO, organised a trip that exposed his staff to off-road mountain biking, kayaking in flowing water, rock climbing and coaststeering, allowing many fears to be conquered. This seven day activity brought an already solid team even closer.
Exercise Alpine Sapper, held in Austria, was a huge highlight for both troop staff and several newly badged sappers. Although the team was a mixture of experienced skiers and those who had little or no race experience, the annual race camp is perfectly designed for all abilities and within a matter of weeks all members of the team gained a good dose of courage to race hard and fully commit to the championships. The camp was both positive and motivating for all and provided an excellent platform to develop individuals into potential Instructors of the future.
3 RSME has a fantastic training area, which during the winter months tends to get ‘muddy and wet’ and with many hills and an undulating terrain it becomes a familiar site for many cross-country runners. The station hosted and organised 5 cross country events in total, 3 of which were the Regional Command (South), Army’s & Inter Services Championships, all of which were a massive success for the organisers, competitors and the ASCB.
