Sgt (SI) C Jowers RAPTC
The DST is a Tri-Service establishment, which has been going through a transition over the last year after the long-awaited arrival of 25 Regt RLC from Deepcut. DST now boasts an approximate 1500 students undertaking driving courses at any one time. Taking every opportunity to rest and recuperate away from the workplace, DST has organised several UAAT and multi activity AT packages for Permanent Staff and Initial Trade Training Trainees. AT activities have included mountain biking, kayaking, rock climbing and hill walking in the Lake District National Park, Pembrokeshire and Capel Curig. The PD department took every opportunity to support these packages and I managed to assist in the delivery of mountain biking and hill walking.
Identifying sport as another way of relieving the daily pressures of work commitments, all individual departments come together throughout the year to compete in the Commandant’s
Sporting Cup Competition. The competition consisted of 5 sporting events and was fiercely contested coming down to the final event of the competition. A huge congratulations to CIS Sqn who were crowned the Commandant Sporting Cup Winners 19.
On 13 Nov 19, DST had the privilege of hosting the UK North Individual and Team X-Country Championships in support of UK North sport. The event took place on the picturesque setting of Beverley Westwood and was a huge success with over 200 runners. After the arrival of the new Commandant, this was the first opportunity for the gym to show off their organisational skills and the importance of our support to UK North Sport.
This year has flown by and the DST Physical Development team looks forward to the new challenges will come over the next year.
